BOE announced the early activation of China's first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line, marking a new milestone in the global high-end development of mid-size OLEDs.

In his address, BOE CEO Feng Qiang stated that the Chengdu 8.6-generation AMOLED production line is a significant step in BOE's deepening presence in Chengdu, and will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the city's industrial ecosystem development, high-quality economic growth, and enhanced global industry influence. The activation of the first product signifies that the project has entered a crucial stage of mass production. BOE will strive to "build the world's most competitive 8.6-generation OLED production line," continuously honing its expertise, solving technical challenges, and establishing competitive barriers to lay a solid foundation for successful mass production in 2026.

BOE's first 8.6-generation AMOLED production line in China, with a total investment of 63 billion yuan, is the largest single industrial project in Sichuan Province to date. It has a designed capacity of 32,000 glass substrates per month (IT Home note: size 2290mm×2620mm), primarily producing high-end touch OLED displays for smart terminals such as laptops and tablets.

This production line adopts a FMM (Flexible Metal-Membrane) process compatible with both flexible OLED and Hybrid OLED. By employing low-temperature polycrystalline silicon oxide (LTPO) backplane technology and Tandem stacked light-emitting device fabrication technology, the OLED screens produced on this line achieve lower power consumption and longer lifespan, driving the iterative upgrades of downstream laptop and tablet products.

Since construction began in 2024, the first batch of equipment for BOE's 8.6-generation AMOLED production line was moved in four months ahead of schedule in May 2025, setting a new global record for high-generation production line construction; and the first product was lit up five months ahead of schedule, seven months later.

Currently, BOE has invested in and built three 6th generation flexible AMOLED production lines in Chengdu, Chongqing, and Mianyang, with a cumulative OLED display shipment of over 500 million units. With the commissioning of BOE's first 8.6th generation AMOLED production line in China and its mass production next year, it will have four AMOLED production lines in operation in the future.
