According to Omdia's latest forecast, large-size OLED panel shipments are projected to grow by 18.8% to 38.8 million units in 2026, bucking the trend.
Meanwhile, overall large-size display panel shipments are expected to decline by 2.3%, and LCD panel shipments by 3.0% to 878.1 million units, indicating a shrinking LCD market.
The growth is primarily driven by OLED monitors and notebook computer panels, with notebook OLED panels growing by 66% and monitor OLED panels by 34%, becoming the main drivers of growth.
Omdia analyst YS Chung stated that the continued rise in prices of PC components such as memory and CPUs has weakened consumer demand, leading to a 1.8% decline in monitor shipments, and declines of 0.6% and 3.8% in notebook and tablet shipments, respectively.
However, OLED technology is bucking the trend and growing. South Korean manufacturers will shift more production capacity from TV OLED to display OLED. Samsung Display and BOE will begin mass production of 8.6-generation IT OLED panels in mid-2026, primarily targeting laptop OLED panels.
Regarding TV OLED, shipments of panels larger than 65 inches increased by 8.4%, but shipments of panels smaller than 65 inches decreased by 5.9%, indicating a clear trend towards larger sizes.
